If the US continues to borrow $1.6 trillion more than it has revenue, which is VERY realistic; let's just assume the FED's cut spending by half, ie $800 bil. Anyone think that won't have major ramifications on everything. I think this is what keeps Mr. Dewitt up at night. He knows they are not going to reopen that Ford plant in Hazelwood, and that Boeing is not going to be expanding in St. Louis. Going to a MLB game is VERY discretionary spending. People will make the case for television revenues, but any game that neglects getting the next generation of fans hooked (IE kids) is doomed to suffer the same fate as bowling. While I like Albert and respect him as a person, there is no way I give him a contract for more than 3 years without a buyout clause. Albert may also want to leave. While the Reds fans got a bad Griffy Jr., KG didn't have his best years in CIN whereas Albert has had his best in STL. Wonder how long it would take fans to devour Pujols if he began to show Griffey Jr. syndrome and was costing STL $30 mil per year. I think it would get ugly. I just wanted to put in my two cents. You are one of the few to point out the very probable downside.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
