The Conservative Case for Gay Marriage

We spend a lot of time on this blog not being serious, and a lot of time being way more serious than we should about baseball (and even fantasy baseball). But here is a link to a terrific take on a very serious issue, one that I'm confident will be resolved in the next decade or two, but that will no doubt cause some angst in the process.

I guess he made some interesting points except one, it's a sin.
OK, back to baseball...

Blumer, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23.) Under your theory, none of us could get married. Z.

Z, come on, you are selecting this verse as your case for Gay Marriage. Listen, you know anyone can get right with God, Romans 10:9-10. The challenge in your example is that getting right requires a change of lifestyle, a Godly lifestyle.
Here is just one scripture to ponder
1 Corinthians 6:8-10 (New King James Version)

8 No, you yourselves do wrong and cheat, and you do these things to your brethren! 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
Of course God will forgive and as forgiven followers we want to follow God's Word, but with that desire demands a change in our life and our lifestyle...which is for our Good! We benefit by making that change.
Anyway, it is fun to connect with you on different issues. I love this about you, Z.

Blumer, Our society does not require an attempt to get right with God to allow a person to marry. Your church might (although I doubt it) but your church isn't the state. No one is arguing that your church has to allow same-sex marriage. Plus, everyone of the "sinners" listed in verses 9 and 10 quoted by you is permitted to marry except same-sex couples. As long as the state allows marriage, it must allow it for everyone.

Blumer, I enjoy the debate as well; that's why I posted the article. I appreciate your loyal readership and comments. It's been great reconnecting over Reds baseball.

Z, the principles of our country is Godly, although it is continually being challenged. Even if our society does not recognize God, does it make it right? Who will stand up for the principles this country was founded on if we don't. God's stance on this topic is clear, he wiped out Sodom and Gomorrah for this exact act. Regardless how our country embraces marriages and how neighborhoods are more wholesome and secure with married couples up and down the street, the act itself is sinful and to sanction it would place me in agreement with it, which I will never do.
God have mercy on churches that are sanction this type of behavior. I pity those leaders for making that decision.
Now, it is our job to love the sinner but hate the sin. We have many people who commit other sins that are being married every day, but the difference is God created marriages to be one man and one women. We can not legislate God's law. It is what it is.
